Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week we welcome back our students and begin the second semester. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year's break. On Monday, students will report to home room at 8:30am to receive their schedule for second semester. If your child has problems with their schedule, they need to meet with their counselor during the period of the class they need corrected. This week we will be retesting students that were not proficient on the End of Course test for English 2. It takes the state several days to score this test, so students that choose to take the retest to improve their final exam grade will receive an incomplete for the course until the score is reported, and then the grade will be changed to the student's final grade. Please reach out to me if you have any questions about the English 2 retest and your child's grade. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Makayla Boles. Makayla recently finished her Nursing Fundamentals class and has led the efforts of organizing a Blood Drive sponsored by the Red Cross on 1/14/26, 1:30-6:00 at Palmyra Methodist Church . Hello Sauras, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with your Saura Weekly Update. This week is our last week of instruction before the exam week for state exams. On Monday night the Athletic Boosters Club will be meeting in the cafeteria at 6:30pm. This Thursday the Saura Band will be having our Christmas Concert in the auditorium at South Stokes at 7:00pm. Teacher made exams will be given this Thursday and Friday. Students who meet exam exemption criteria may choose to take the exam in that course. If a student chooses to take the exam, the exam grade will be counted as 20% of the semester grade only if it improves the student’s grade. A student’s grade cannot be lowered because he/she chooses to take an exam if exemption is granted and not taken. This Saturday the Band, JROTC, and several South Stokes student organizations will be in the Walnut Cove Christmas parade. This week's Saura Shout Out goes to Abe Jennings. Abe is polite and a pleasant kid to be around. He keeps his area in the cafeteria clean, and assists other students when it is time to leave lunch. Thank you Abe, for your kindness and leadership. This week in Saura sports, on Tuesday, basketball hosts McMichael. On Wednesday, basketball travels to Rockingham, and wrestling travels to Chatham Central. On Friday Basketball travels to College Prep and Leadership Academy, and swim travels Kernersville YMCA. On Saturday, wrestling will be holding the Joe Via Invitational Tournament at South Stokes and indoor track will be at JDL. Hey Saura families, this is Principal Chris Bottoms with a quick message concerning EOC retesting and our exam period. Students taking EOC tested subjects this semester (Math 1, Math 3, English 2 and Biology) received a district letter today explaining how they will be given an opportunity to retest if they are not proficient on the first administration. This retest will need to occur in the five days of the exam period, 12/15th through 12/19. We are emphasizing the importance of students taking the retest if they are not proficient on the first attempt. Not only will this improve their final average (since the EOC counts as 20% of their final grade) but will also help the student with mastery of the content in preparation for their next classes in that subject. If you give your permission to retest, we will call you to inform you if your child scored not proficient in one of these tested areas and to schedule the retest. Because of the way we are incorporating the retest into the 5 day exam window, this means we will test by subject area each day instead of by class period. Our Exam schedule can be found on our homepage. Students will also receive an exam slip that will tell them which days they will have an exam. If you have any questions about the exam schedule, please reach out to the school and we will answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your support of South Stokes High School, and as always, Go Sauras!

The Saura Tribal Challenge has Begun!
We have started a new school spirit competition called the Saura Tribal Challenge.
The Saura Tribal Challenge is a competition to determine which students can show the most school pride by attending different school events, sporting competitions, performances, and club activities.
When you go to a home sporting event, or school event like a band performance, or theater production, look for the QR code to scan and fill out the form.
These QR codes will be located at the ticket table. For away events, look for either Dr. Bottoms, Mrs. Nowlin, or Coach Clark, and they will have the QR code to scan.
Each grade level is a tribe, and the students in each grade are competing for the most points.
For each event you scan the QR code at, you receive 10 points. On some special events, it is double.
Each week we will be recognizing the student in each grade with the highest points as our Tribal Leaders.
At the end of the year, the student with the most points in each grade will receive the Saura Tribal Cup at Awards Day.
At some sporting events, we may have pizza and drinks for the first 30 students in the student section.
We will also be drawing each week from the top 10 point holders in each grade for prizes like Spirit Chains, gift cards, student passes, and Saura Gear.
